Recently my laptop is becoming more and more emo. Sometimes it will auto restart a few times. So I have decided to start to look for a new PC. Most probably not getting another laptop. Last time bought a laptop because can bring to school. Now I already got my cert. And the next time I step into school is 2 years later after my NS liao. So won’t get a laptop for now.

Since nowadays I seldom play game, mostly watching drama and surfing web, I thought I will just find some cheap PC. But I am using my old study table with my laptop now. So if I change to a PC, I have to make sure it is light weight so that I can place it on my table. I have no space to put my cpu below my table. No space beside my table also. So die die must be on the table it self. And I found this new product…

↑ Asus EeeBox.

↑ The whole Asus EeeBox is only this big. Volume is 1 Litre. It’s like a size of a book only lor. And it’s actually quite stylish.

↑ The lime-green brouche is blocking the EeeBox. You see the EeeBox so small. So sexy. Piano black leh. Glossy type. I love glossy surface. LOL.

↑ The amazing thing is the price. $439 only. They having a road show which will have a promotion where you buy the EeeBox with 19inch Asus monitor, they give you free keyboard and mouse. Means you get the whole complete working PC for $699 only.

The specs for Eeebox is :
* Processor: Intel Atom N270 at 1.6GHz
* Ram: 1GB DDR2 memory
* Hard disk: 80GB 2.5″ SATA, at 5400rpm
* Connectivity: Ethernet, Wifi 802.11n, Bluetooth
* Graphic chipset: Intel GMA 950
* DVI connector, to transfer signal to an LCD or plasma TV
* An MS/MS pro/MMC/SD/SDHC memory card reader
* Two USB ports at the front and two at the back
* External Wifi antenna connector
* A Line connector (S/PDIF)
* Dimensions: 8.5″x1″x7″

If you notice, they have Wifi 802.11n inside it. N is the latest and the fastest. More importantly, wireless is one of the problem I considered when I am planning to get a new PC. Because my current laptop have wireless built-in liao so no need worry about it. But once I get a PC, I still need to buy wireless adapter. And some of the cheap PC I saw doesn’t include Window XP inside. So you still need to buy wireless adapter and Window XP which will cost you additional $150 to $200.

Although the specs is below average, most probably you can’t do programming and 3D modelling on it. But watching drama, listen to mp3, surf web should be ok. But after I went to read the review from anandtech.com, I nearly cry.

 
↑ Benchmark for EeeBox. Green colour bar is Eeebox. Using the newest Atom cpu at 1.6ghz. And yet it lose to Pentium M “Dothan” 1.6ghz lor. Pentium M is cpu on those laptop 2 years plus ago to 3 years. So EeeBox lose to something that is 2 to 3 years old is simply super super disappointing.

Don’t think can do much programming on it lor. Complie the codes might need to wait for a long time. Photoshop maybe need open very long too. But if you all everyday just surf web, msn chat, listen to mp3, watch drama should be ok lar.

I still considering want to buy or not. Most probably not buying ba. Although my laptop is a bit emo. Recently she tame down a bit liao. Not so emo. I predict still can use like 1 year plus before she emo and commit sucide. So don’t waste money now la. The EeeBox is really stylish. But I maybe will still do some light programming and photoshop and flash. So better don’t get such lousy cpu. Wait complie codes need wait 1 hour I will snap.
